Nashvilles 20 AmSouth Banks will soon get a major facelift thanks to a merger between the company and Birmingham-based Regions Bank.
The merger was announced Thursday morning by executives from both banks.
AmSouth, which operates 680 bank branches in six southern states, including Tennessee, will lose its name to Regions in the merger.
The newly-created company will have over 2,000 branches across 16 states in the South, Midwest and Texas, and will be chaired by Jackson W. Moore, the current chairman of Regions. The current chairman of AmSouth, C. Dowd Ritter, will be the new banks president and CEO.
No plans to close any branches or offices, or to eliminate any jobs, were announced.
These companies complement each other in many ways, and together, led by one of the strongest management teams in the business, we will have an even greater ability to deliver superior service to our customers, Moore said in a statement.
