In the 10 years since Penterman was hired to run the Nashville Opera Company, it has quintupled its budget to nearly $2 million and stages four major productions each year. The company averaged just one production annually in the 16 years before 1995 and was forced to cancel its 1994 productions due to financial hardship. Attendance at its productions averaged 94 percent for the 2003-04 season.
