GM ends Saturn Ion line in Spring Hill

General Motors announced today it will cease production of its Saturn Ion line at its automotive plant in Spring Hill as part of a company-wide move to shed 30,000 jobs and save $7 billion.

The Ion, one of two Saturn cars produced at the GM Spring Hill Manufacturing Operations (the Saturn Vue being the other), will close at the end of 2006, company officials said.
