Saint Thomas confirms layoffs coming

Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville is laying off 50 of its 3,400 staff members within the next 60 days. Staff members were informed Monday and Tuesday of the reductions.

�With revenues declining because fewer patients are being admitted, Saint Thomas has had to make some difficult decisions,� said Paul Lindsley, spokesperson for Saint Thomas.

Hospital administrators have been looking for ways to reduce costs for several months to stay in line with the falling number of patients.
