The Alabama woman who is facing kidnapping charges after she allegedly stabbed a 4-day-old’s mother and snatched her baby, has attempted to commit suicide, her attorney said Monday while she was in U.S. District Court.

Tammy Renee Silas, 39, allegedly posed as an immigration officer to gain entry to the mother’s home and kidnap the infant. Yair Carillo was found in Alabama and Silas was extradited to Nashville to face charges.

Silas, who is being held in the Robertson County Jail, feels she's being mistreated at the facility. She requested a transfer to another facility during Monday’s hearing.

Her attorney, Isaiah Gant, said scars on her wrists are evidence she has attempted to take her own life although she did not require hospitalization for the injuries.

Attorneys claim she is not being given prescription medicine and that her food is being tampered with.

The court plans to investigate her allegations and have answers by the end of the week.
