Salon FX owner Nelson Palacios is preparing to retrofit his midtown building to create a New Urbanism-style feel and function.

By the end of the year, and perhaps within the next few months, Palacios said that he wants to begin a $2 million project that will add two floors to the 7,500-square-foot contemporary brick, concrete and metal building that houses his health and beauty salon. The Bogota, Colombia, native is looking at two mixed-use options: two floors of apartments or a second floor for a day spa and a third floor for apartments. Both of the new floors will be roughly 7,500 square feet, he said.
