Tammy Renee Silas, accused of kidnapping a 4-day-old boy in 2009, pleaded guilty to kidnapping Monday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Nashville.
Silas changed her plea to guilty before her trial was set to begin Tuesday morning after a few delays. A sentencing hearing is set for July 11.
Authorities charged Silas with the Sept. 29, 2009, kidnapping of Yair Anthony Carrillo-Gurrola from a home on East Ridge Drive in Nashville, after she allegedly attacked the child’s mother, Maria Gurrola, with her fists, beer bottles and a knife found at the home, according to the plea agreement signed Monday.
Silas then drove the boy to her home in Ardmore, Ala., where police arrested her three days later.
As part of the plea agreement, Silas could face 20 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
