Belmont University President Bob Fisher announced Wednesday afternoon the university has added sexual orientation to its nondiscrimination policy.

The announcement of the update to the policy, which protects students, faculty and staff, follows a BU Board of Trustees vote earlier Wednesday.

Belmont made headlines in December following the departure of women's soccer coach Lisa Howe, who told her team that she and her same-sex partner are expecting a child.

"I walked out of that room today feeling more supported and encouraged by my board on this issue more than any issue that I've ever dealt with at Belmont," Fisher said.

Check back later for updates.

It's a bit arrogant of Bob Fisher to call this "my board". They're not his board, he's their president.
