A chiropractor in Brentwood was indicted on multiple charges including strangulation, use of a deadly weapon and rape by a Davidson County grand jury on May 24.
The indictment alleges that Steiner D. Sanford Jr., who operates Brentwood Chiropractic and Wellness clinic in Maryland Farms, raped a woman on March 1. He was charged with three counts of aggravated rape, one count of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated kidnapping stemming from the March 1 incident.
The indictment also alleges that he strangled and assaulted the same woman on Feb. 24.
Sanford's attorney, Bernard McEvoy, said Sanford would enter a plea of not guilty. The sentencing guidelines for his alleged crimes are a range between 15 and 60 years, McEvoy said.
Sanford, a Nashville resident, was arrested on March 5 and jailed on $150,000 bond, according to Davidson County jail records. He is currently incarcerated at Hill Detention Center, according to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.
According to his website, Sanford, who goes by Douglas Sanford, opened his Brentwood chiropractic practice in 2007. The phone number listed for his office was disconnected.
