Metro Police say extreme cold is believed to have contributed to the death of 81-year-old John B. Anderson, whose body was found in the front yard of his Oakes Drive home at 9:40 a.m. Monday.

Anderson, who, according to his family, suffered from advanced Alzheimer’s disease, is believed to have walked out of his home undetected in his bathrobe at some point during the night.

His wife assisted him to bed at 10 p.m. Sunday.

There was no evidence of foul play, police said.

The police department encourages family members of senior citizens to check on them regularly to ensure that their residential heaters are working properly.
