Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell announced today a committee of business, labor, and human resource experts to review Metro salaries for department directors and senior officials.
Purcell tabbed the following: Marguerite Sallee chairman and CEO of the Frontline Group; Pat Saltkill, president of the Central Labor Council of Nashville; Dorothy Shell, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Personnel; Nashville businessman Ted Welch; and U.S. Judge Thomas Wiseman.
The committee will work with William M. Mercer Inc., a human resources consultant that issued a report earlier this year on Metro pay classifications. The Mercer report recommended Metro use an open range, with a minimum and maximum pay rate, for all department heads.
Purcell said he expects the panel to work with Mercer this summer to examine Metro executives pay and ensure that the city can continue to recruit and retain quality leaders for its departments in the years ahead.
