Metro Council members will get an extra opportunity to meet potential candidates for the vacant school board seat on July 20.
That’s when the Council education and rules and confirmation committees, along with the West Davidson County Council members, will host a meet and greet with candidates.
The vacancy, created with the resignation of Alan Coverstone, was officially announced at Tuesday’s meeting. Candidates have until July 14 to submit their names for consideration and Council will make an appointment at its July 21 meeting.
The meet and greet will take place July 20 at 5:30 p.m. inside the media room at the historic downtown courthouse.
Besides the committee members, West Nashville Council members Jason Holleman, Emily Evans, Bo Mitchell and Eric Crafton will be hosting as well.
In the past, potential school board appointees have only appeared before the rules and confirmation committee.
At least seven candidates have expressed interest in the seat. Coverstone resigned to pursue a position with the school district overseeing the new charter school policy. Coverstone was officially hired for the job on Tuesday.
