Karl Dean announced Tuesday his mayoral re-election campaign team has added veteran political aides Toby Compton and Derrick Tibbs.
Compton will serve as senior advisor. He worked with Dean for the past three-and-a-half years as legislative director.
Prior to his service with Metro, Compton served as the senior advisor to the 2007 mayoral campaign and worked for Buck Dozier’s mayoral effort in 2007, Jack Johnson for state Senate in 2006 and Lamar Alexander for U.S. Senate in 2002. Compton has also worked for The Ingram Group and the Associated General Contractors of Tennessee.
Tibbs will serve as political director and joins the campaign after working for the past eight years at the Tennessee Department of Transportation, most recently as legislative liaison.
In addition, Tibbs worked as constituency outreach coordinator for Phil Bredesen’s 2002 gubernatorial campaign, get out the vote coordinator for the Virginia Democratic Party coordinated campaign in 2001 and national director of mail operations for the Gore/Lieberman presidential campaign.
“I am pleased to announce the addition of two capable professionals to an already highly experienced campaign team,” Dean said in a release. "We will continue to have an active campaign that engages voters from every part of Davidson County by focusing on our city's progress and its very bright future."
