Mayor Karl Dean announced Wednesday he has named Matt Wiltshire as director of the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development.
Wiltshire replaces Alexia Poe, who left the mayor’s office in March to serve as communications director in the new administration of Gov. Bill Haslam.
Wiltshire will oversee business recruitment and expansion efforts. He starts the position Monday, May 23.
“Despite the recent economic recession, Nashville has continued to attract new and expanding businesses,” Dean said in a release. “And with the economy improving, we expect this activity to only increase. Our office needs someone who understands the needs of growing businesses, and Matt brings 15 years of experience in working with a number of different industries.”
A Nashville native, Wiltshire has been with Avondale Partners for the past six years, assisting corporate clients with raising capital and completing mergers and acquisitions. He has led the firm’s efforts in the transportation and manufacturing industries and also has worked with healthcare, consumer and technology companies.
Prior to joining Avondale, Wiltshire worked as an investment banker for Compass Advisers in New York City, Greenbridge Partners in Greenwich, Conn., and Montgomery/Banc of America Securities in San Francisco and New York City.
“By focusing on improving education, public safety and economic development, Mayor Dean and his administration have built a solid foundation for the continued growth of our community,” Wiltshire said in a statement.
Wiltshire is a graduate of Dartmouth College, where he received a bachelor’s degree in government.
