Metro detectives believe a driver shot in the arm by another motorist Thursday morning on the Interstate 24 Haywood Lane exit ramp was targeted.

The suspect, described as a black man driving a grey Chevrolet Impala, fired several shots at the 34-year-old victim at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. The victim, whom police didn’t identify, was hit in the elbow.

The victim’s 13-month-old son was seated in the back of the victim’s Dodge Stratus but was not injured in the shooting. The injured man pulled over to the side of the road and was later taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with what police called a non-life threatening injury.

The suspected gunman continued westbound on Haywood Lane, police said.

The young boy’s mother picked him up from the scene.

Police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.
