Representatives of the development group wanting to build two apartment towers and accompanying townhomes in Midtown are optimistic their plan can win approval from both citizens and Metro officials.

Meeting with Midtown merchants Monday at Noshville Delicatessen, officials of St. Louis-based MLP Investments said they want to create a New Urbanism project, to be called The University Towers at Vanderbilt, that will energize the bustling area with what could be more than 500 tenants and pedestrians.

Included in the project will be about 10,000 square feet of retail space, a public plaza and an above-ground parking facility.
