A former Goodpasture Christian School drumline instructor was indicted on sex charges this week for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old female student.

A Davidson County grand jury handed 23-year-old Jonathon Doyle Mann a seven-count indictment including four counts of sexual battery by an authority figure, two counts of statutory rape and one count of rape without consent.

Mann, who was 22 at the time of his May 28 arrest, allegedly had a sexual relationship with the girl, whom he had met through his job as a drumline instructor at Goodpasture.

At the time of his arrest, police said the relationship began in late summer of 2009 and developed over the next several months. Sexual contact between the two occurred in the school parking lot and in the hallways after hours.

The statutory rape allegedly took place at Mann’s apartment, with police later secretly recording a phone conversation in which they said Mann admitted to the incidents.

The investigation began when the victim’s parents notified police after first discussing the matter with school officials.

It's a good thing this article was about statutory rape and not about firing a lesbian volleyball coach. Only with a firing would be outrage.
