Festival to feature local merchants, jazz and blues

Efforts to promote local businesses and to give new life to a musical movement that once dominated the area have spawned the first annual Jazz and Blues Fest. The event will take place June 23 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. along the 2600 and 2700 blocks of Jefferson Street.

The brainchild of the Jefferson Street United Merchants Partnership, the festival will feature performers Charles Dungey, Marion James, John Baridsong and Hakim Rahsul, among others.
