Staff reports

The International Association of Fire Fighters Local 140 announced endorsements for Metro’s elections Monday, handing all but one of the five incumbent at-large council members its support.

The local fire fighters union has endorsed at-large council members Megan Barry, Tim Garrett Ronnie Steine and Charlie Tygard, but has not endorsed Councilman Jerry Maynard. Don't give any of them a f***&* dime, they are all crooks!

I'm sure many taxpayers are glad to see their candidate for these council positions
being opposed by a group using "Taxpayer salaries" going toward Union dues
that endorse opposing candidates. These endorsements only come after many
promises being made that also usually at even more cost to the taxpayers.
What a system!------------

Know where you can stick your taxes, govskeptic?... This is America... all of us... even lowly govt workers - who you evidently think should eat your crumbs and be grateful for them - still should have the right to be heard!

When the unions in this country are forced to their knees... the middle class will not be far behind... then you'll be the one working for crumbs and the fat cats will expect you to be grateful...

Without unions, there would be no vacation time, no overtime pay, no sick time, no health and safety regulations and much more.

But ya'll go ahead and believe the lies of the plutocrats, that's what they want: an ignorant and compliant workforce.

Why are they endorsing anybody? Aren't they government employees? I'm basically pro-union, but I don't need the firefighters to tell me who to vote for. Their agenda appears to differ from mine. Do people really pay attention to them?

The fact that anyone would endorse Buddy Baker pretty much says it all.

I'm stunned and confused at the Ken Jakes endorsement. I've been told on numerous occasions that he is a known racist against Jew/gays/blacks and so on. Wow. Did the Union not even bother to research these folks?

By: breathofdeath on 6/21/11 at 10:39

Baker was endorsed because he is one of them. His biographical information on the council web site mentions he is a retired captain with the Nashville Fire Department with 42 years of service with the department.

If unions support a candidate, that automatically makes them suspect to me.

I am stunned and confused at the comments of girliegirl. I personally know Ken Jakes and can assure you that the comments are slander or if you like an out right lie. Ken Jakes is an honest man that has a genuine desire to be a very loud vice for all the people of Davidson County regardless of their race or religeous affiliation.

I find it quiet admiral that the firefighters that we all depend on so much did the research on Ken Jakes and found him to be one of the best people to represent the PEOPLE of the city of Nashville even though he REFUSED PAC money donations from them. In fact he refuses all PAC money because he does not want to owe any favors when he takes office. Here is something new, he wants to do the will of the people.

I can promise you that all of his viable opponents will recieve PAC money and will owe favors to those PAC groups.

girliegirl you should do a little research of your own before you decide to commit slander. After all your identity can be retreived by a court order. Maybe if you go to google or check out his web site at jakesforthepeople.com and you will see that Ken Jakes is supported by a very diverse group of people. that is not likely to happen to a racist.

girliegirl is most likely in my opinion either a candidate for council at large or a member of the group trying to steal our fairgrounds. Shame on You!

I'm waiting to hear from the plumbers union.

By: localboy on 6/21/11 at 1:22

Yea, this really sways my opinion.

rjp Firemen and police can be in a union but not school teachers! Double standard's. Alot of people running for council are new face's and still have not read where they stand on public concerns. Seem's were not done with the censorship stuff in the paper's and the new.I am voting for people that stand up for all the people, not the mayor yes people!

By: bfra on 6/21/11 at 2:34

titansjoe - That one has made a lot of false claims before. Especially about the For the Fairgrounds people. Her discription of the people, where they were from and their mode of dress. As I have been in attendance at several of their meetings, her descriptions were ALL false.

And I'm stunned that since the new fire station on Hobson Pike is in District 33, that they could not find anyone to recommend. Mr. Duvall is a vet, honest, hardworking for his district.

And I met Mr. Jakes; he is all that titansjoe says he is. Plus I had the opportunity to ask Eric Crafton some questions. He actually graduated Magna Cum Laude from Vanderbilt - no easy task - I'd say. But the left can find a reason to ridicule anyone.

By: nash615 on 6/22/11 at 8:35

breathofdeath, I'm more than aware that Buddy is "one of them" -- in fact, it's his only qualification. After 4 years of his "service" on the Council, I stand by my statement:

The fact that anyone would endorse Buddy Baker pretty much says it all.

By: SirKnight on 6/22/11 at 12:22

If you vote Democrat, that is all you need to be endorsed by this bunch. Thank goodness 99% of voters are not swayed by whom a silly union wants in office.

By: localboy on 6/23/11 at 1:13

"If you vote Democrat, that is all you need to be endorsed by this bunch. Thank goodness 99% of voters are not swayed by whom a silly union wants in office."
According to this math, 1% vote Democratic; per the Commercial-Appeal, 33% of the voters in the last governor's race voted Democratic. Dude - the math, the math...;)

By: SirKnight on 6/23/11 at 2:13

Let me rephrase my point: If you ARE a Democrat that is all you need to be endorsed by this bunch. I am glad that most adults (maybe 99% of us) are NOT influenced to vote a certain way because a workers union likes them.

Dude - read slowly and carefully. ;)
