Fire officials believe the Tuesday evening two-alarm fire at the Brentwood Oaks Apartments that damaged or destroyed 18 apartments broke out in an attic area, above a water sprinkler system.
Around 7:30 p.m., when the Nashville Fire Department responded to the fire at 816 Northoak Drive, firefighter found flames coming from the entire third floor of the building resulting in a second alarm fire.
An NFD spokeswoman said the initial call came in as a water flow alarm from the sprinklers. Despite the extent of the fire, however, officials said all of the apartments’ residents made it out safely.
Two firefighters were transported to area hospitals. One with an ankle injury was treated and released. Another firefighter suffered hypertension and remains in the hospital in stable condition.
It could take days for fire investigators to determine the exact cause of the fire due to the amount of damage.
