Five sites considered for gas-fired plant

Metro officials are still trying to decide whether it would be more cost-efficient to convert the current Thermal Transfer Plant to a natural gas facility or to build a new plant somewhere that would use gas as its source of energy.

Results from a study done by the local Gresham, Smith and Partners may help officials determine the destiny of the plant. Gresham, Smith and Partners is one of the firms working with the Fairfax, Va.-based Gershman, Brickner and Bratton, Inc. (GBB), which was hired by Metro to look at alternatives for solid waste management. The study follows Mayor Bill Purcell
