A computer memory card left at Café Coco in September led to Friday’s arrest of a Vanderbilt University graduate on child pornography charges.

Metro detectives opened an investigation on Jeff Ewers, 24, after they found child pornography on the memory card. Police said a subsequent search of a computer hard drive turned up more than 600 images, as well as some videos, of child pornography.

Ewers is charged with six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and as of Monday remains in jail on $300,000 bond.

Staff at Café Coco looked on the memory disk to figure out who owned it and notified police after seeing the images.

Sex Crimes detectives found Ewers’ name on the memory card and executed a search warrant at his apartment on Sept. 28, seizing his computer equipment. Ewers declined an interview with police after his arrest. The investigation continues.

Police said they arrested Ewers last month on charges of DUI, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, possession of a narcotic without a prescription and violation of probation.

A DUI charge against Ewers in May 2009 resulted in a reckless driving conviction, and a DUI charge in October 2009 was dismissed.

Next time, he should leave the child porn at home.

Three hundred thousand dollars for someone who hasn't hurt anyone? It seems a little steep.
