A 22-year-old high school drum line instructor is due in court Tuesday afternoon to face statutory rape charges for an alleged affair with a 14-year-old female student.
Police arrested Jonathon Doyle Mann on May 28 on two counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and one count of sexual battery. According to police, the illicit relationship developed over a period of several months after Mann met the girl while he worked as a drum line instructor at Goodpasture High School.
Sexual contact between the two occurred in the school parking lot and hallways after hours, according to police, but the statutory rape offenses allegedly happened at Mann’s apartment.
Police secretly recorded a telephone call during which they said Mann admitted to the incidents, which he later denied.
The investigation began after the victim’s parents contacted police after meeting with school officials.
