A neighbor came to the rescue when he saw 63-year-old Jeanine Pereira and her 22-month-old grandson, Logan, floating facedown and motionless Sunday afternoon in the south Nashville family’s pool.
He pulled them to safety, called 911 and performed CPR until paramedics arrived at the Woodmont Boulevard home just after 3 p.m.
Police said Pereira’s 3-year-old granddaughter told them her grandmother was carrying her brother down the steps to the pool when they both fell in. Police said they believe a medical issue is likely to blame.
Pereira and her grandson are in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
