A Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest of Santerius Lavender, 24, in Memphis on Tuesday, according to Metro police.
Lavender was wanted for the fatal April 9 shooting of Chad Allen Daniel on Hillside Avenue.
Metro police said that Daniel, 33, was shot while in the front passenger seat of a Nissan Altima that was driven into apartments at 1330 Hillside Ave. by his friend who had allegedly arranged to buy drugs from Lavender’s girlfriend, Bershia Edens.
Daniel’s friend told police that he approached Edens in a breezeway and a gunman, who police allege was Lavender, appeared and demanded money.
The friend said he threw his wallet down and ran back to the Altima while the gunman followed. He reported that shots were fired as he tried to pull away and Daniel was struck. The friend told police he then drove to Wedgewood Avenue where he noticed a police officer working a traffic assignment at Wedgewood and Beech. He pulled over and asked for help, but Daniel was already dead.
Edens, 24, of Hillside Avenue was jailed May 31 on a Davidson County grand jury indictment charging her with first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery and aggravated robbery. Lavender is being returned from Memphis to Nashville to face similar charges.
