Charles E. Potter, a 48-year-old homeless man, has been identified as the pedestrian who was struck and killed last night on Interstate 24 near Shelby Avenue.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Camishhaa Adams, 40, said she attempted to avoid hitting Potter as she was driving a 1999 Ford Expedition eastbound on I-24 at 8 p.m.

The driver side mirror of the Expedition clipped Potter who fell into the next lane where he was struck by the eastbound driver of a 2001 Chevrolet S10 pickup.

A statement from police said Potter was known to have alcohol issues and a toxicology test would determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in his death.

The criminal court clerk records reflect that this derelict was arrested dozens of times for intoxication, often within a few days of each other. He was arrested for stealing beer, assault, disorderly conduct, and dozens of other crimes.

Good riddance.
