Jill Pittman, principal at Metro’s J.T. Moore Middle School for the past five years, is headed to Overton High School to become that school’s Freshman Academy principal, Metro Nashville Public Schools announced Friday.
Filling her position at J.T. Moore is Gary Hughes, principal at Head Magnet Middle School.
Metro schools spokeswoman Noelle Mashburn said the district has still not named the replacement for Hughes. Pittman and Hughes will begin their positions in January.
“We’re excited to have Jill Pittman join our team at Overton High School,” Jay Steele, the district’s associate superintendent for high schools, said in a statement. “She has great high school experience and expertise, and will help move Overton to the next level.”
Pittman arrived in Nashville in 2006 from Jacksonville, Fla., where she served as a high school administrator for five years. At MNPS, she began her work at the Freshmen Academy at Antioch High and then spent more than five years as Head of School for J.T. Moore’s International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme.
Prior to joining the Head Middle Magnet team, Hughes spent two years as the assistant principal at J.T. Moore Middle School, six years teaching students in the MIS conduct class at Two Rivers Middle School, and three years as Dean of Students and guidance counselor at Currey Ingram Academy in Brentwood.
