A Davidson County Criminal Court jury Friday morning convicted Robert Jason Burdick of attempted aggravated rape in the February 1994 attack of a south Nashville woman.

It was a lesser sentence than Burdick received at his first trial earlier this year when he was convicted of aggravated rape and aggravated burglary, and was sentenced to 32 years.

Friday's conviction came following a trial in which the victim testified that she was attacked while she slept, and during a struggle with the intruder, she was able to bite off skin from one of his fingers. The DNA from that skin sample was later matched to Burdick, according to reports.

The jury deliberated a little over five hours over two days before returning the verdict. Judge Seth Norman set the sentencing date for Dec. 2.

Burdick, who was portrayed in the press as 'The Wooded Rapist,' is set for his third trial in Davidson County on March 22, 2010, on charges of especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape.

Police have said Burdick could be responsible for as many as 13 crimes dating back to 1994, including some in Wilson and Williamson counties.
