Korean Veterans Boulevard SoBro connector opens

City officials have christened the new half-mile Korean Veterans Boulevard extension connecting the Eighth Avenue South roundabout to the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge on the south side of the Music City Center.

The $41 million project that began in December 2011 was funded in part by the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.

Mayor Karl Dean has called the KVB Extension a “complete street,” meaning it includes bike lanes, bike racks, wide sidewalks and transit stops as well as green features.

Public Works Department acting director Randy Lovett said public art would soon be added to the sidewalks and landscaping along the new SoBro connector.

Great! Korean veterans have finally been recognized.

Pay attention! The bridge has been named for veterans of the Korean "police action" for years. This just adds the street name.

"was funded in part by the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration."

I always love how this type of statement implies it is someone elses money that funded it. It is still our tax dollars that funded this project, regardless of what tax we paid. My gas taxes help fund the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.

Completed? I thought this road was going to be a road that stretched across all of SoBro and toward Music Circle. When did it get turned into a pretty drive way?

Sorry, I was wrong, Kosh III. I had never read about the bridge before and mistakenly assumed the article today was "it".

But being Korean "tourist", and after all of the "advertisements" of the Vietnam "argument" I felt my fellow Korean veterans were a little ignored over the years.
