Police are investigating a shooting near Belmont University that injured at least one person and caused a wreck at the intersection of Wedgewood and 14th avenues around 2 p.m. Thursday.
According to Metro police Sgt. James Warren, a vehicle was stopped at a stop sign on 14th Avenue South at Wedgewood Avenue across the street from Belmont University when another vehicle pulled up alongside it and occupants from the two vehicles exchanged fire.
Immediately after the gunfire, one vehicle drove into the intersection where it was struck by a bread delivery truck.
One person was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to police. Not long after that, another person with a gunshot wound arrived at the same hospital via private vehicle.
Police are investigating a possible connection between the incidents.
Eyewitnesses at the scene told reporters that a black SUV may have been involved in the incident and sped away after the shooting.
