Steven Allen, 32, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide after he caused a head-on car crash with an elderly couple.
According to investigators, traces of Soma and Xanax were found in Allen’s system after he crossed a centerline on Clarksville Pike and hit Velma Burkhart’s car on Aug. 11, 2011.
Burkhart died at the hospital. Her husband, James Burkhart, also sustained injuries.
Allen had a bottle of hydrocodone pills in his pocket at the time of the crash. He received a sentence of 10 years for vehicular homicide by intoxication and vehicular assault, according to the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office.
Allen, who entered his guilty plea Monday, will also serve a consecutive six-year sentence for a felony drug charge.
