Staff reports

The Nashville Fire Department responded to the Music City Center at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday after a worker fell as much as 40 feet when something he was standing on gave way.

The man, whose identity was not released, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after suffering serious injuries in the fall, according to NFD Deputy Chief Kim Lawson. She said, however, the injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

Holly McCall, spokeswoman for the Nashville Convention Center Authority, said the worker was installing a glass curtain wall when a ground-level grate on which he was standing gave way. McCall said the worker fell at least 20 feet, while the fire department's Lawson estimated it could have been up to 40 feet. The MCC onsite paramedic staff reached the worker first before the fire department responded, stabilized the man and transported him to the hospital.

Lawson said fire crews prepared to rescue the man via the opening through which he fell. They were, however, able to reach him through a basement-level room. She added that the fire department has not been required to respond to many incidents at the MCC work site during the two years of onsite work.

“We pride ourselves on a strong safety program and to date have had only minor injuries,” McCall said.

I pray that the worker is ok

Were they able to get in touch with his family living back in whatever state or country he was from? It is always scary to be hundreds or thousands of miles away from a loved-one when accidents occur.

stay classy JeffF

You know what's also scary JeffF? Being unemployed. I am glad the MCC is providing jobs as opposed to not creating 1 job without the MCC.

even if his family was not from Nashville, I depict this worker is the best man for the job, which is the way it should be.

I will pray for both of you over your lack of concern for this poor man's situation. The name was not released for obvious reasons and you both chose to make political hay with his misfortunes.

Bless your hearts.

By: producer2 on 2/24/12 at 1:05 this how you try to spin it?

By: JeffF on 2/24/12 at 1:50

Spin? See? Heartless...heartless. This poor man may never do things like walk or even hold his loved ones again and you are worried about spinning.

I think you should worry a little less about how this will effect the renting of AV equipment to Shriners or whoever is going to use the new mega convention center and start focusing at least a little more on the human toll of workplace construction accidents.

Crass, very crass people. A man is hurt and someone named Jughead is making fun of somebody?

I see what the people of the hospitality industry feels about the hard working people of this great country. All three of you are trying to take Nashville back to the dark ages with your hate speech and disrepect for others less fortunate than you (except for you Jughead you are apparently a less-fortunate with some fairly obvious chromosonal issues, I take it that that your own parental DNA were more alike that what is normally and legally acceptable).

We will keep helping the less fortunate and making Nashville great even with your voices of hate from the Dark Ages.

JeffF, I believe all are concerned about the workers condition. No caring person would wish any ill to befall another human being.

You do, however, open an interesting question, wondering from where those building the MCC were hired. When this was being approved without allowing citizens to vote, one of many points was the creation of many jobs locally, including one presumes, construcction. The issue was raised about having the best workers, however, this being a government project, and as such subject to bidding, it is not necessarily true these are the best. They are, however, associated with the lowest bidder.

Now would be an excellent time for Metro and CVB lawyers to scramble, making certain they have airtight contractural agreements with the contractor regarding accidents, injuries and the like. It would be a crying shame to have this cost Metro millions before the convention center is even open.

As I have only the most superficial knowledge, meaning I know to call a lawyer,I will defer to those skilled in cirumventing the law and courtroom histrionics. As I'm sure the injured man and his family will be contacting an attorney, Metro's should line their ducks up now.

JeffyBoy: Your diatribe is dripping in insincerity and semen. Keep your hands off of male goats, and keep searching for a supply of cleverness.

Love puddles.

Wow, you really take your hospitality and meeting industry news especially hard there Jughead. You should probably save the foil packaging from your lithium and add it to your hats.

You should probably switch from your Mom's therapist to one of your own now that you are a big boy? I don't think Oedipal is your greatest concern any more. So drop the mail and get some help.

JeffyBoy: Consider asking your mommy the meaning of "run-on sentence." Follow it up with "punctuation."

All part of literacy. Good luck.

Lithium...generic will do.

Harbrace 12c errors are normally my specialty. Still have nightmares about the comma and run on red ink. I still finished with a bankable degree though. How is that hotel/motel/restaurant mangement certificate working for you Veronica?

You are right--I don't own the Hilton. But, I can stay there any time I want.

I'd appreciate it if you would hurry and clean my toilet rim, JeffyBoy. Otherwise, I will have to call ICE and have Sheriff Hall put an immigration/AIDs hold on you.

You are an amateur, but I don't hold it against you. I just pity your pathetic existence.
