An elderly lady was rushed to the hospital Friday morning after being hit by a Metro Transit Authority bus in downtown Nashville.

The MTA bus was making a right turn from Fourth Avenue onto Charlotte Avenue at 11 a.m. when it struck Nancy Farmer, 72, of Seventh Avenue North, as she attempted to cross the street. Witnesses said the woman was in the crosswalk.

Farmer was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was listed in critical condition. The bus driver, Bruce Hogan, 56, of Hermitage, was transported to Baptist Hospital with minor injuries.

Metro police dispatched its crime scene unit to the scene. According to the preliminary investigation, the contributing factor to this crash is failure on the part of the bus driver to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk.
