Staff reports

Franklin police arrested Nashville physician Richard Feldman in a Cool Springs mall parking lot after he allegedly flashed a gun at another motorist in an incident of road rage.

The victim called police at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday after another motorist flashed a gun at him in traffic near Cool Springs Galleria.

Police said the victim was turning left from Perimeter Drive to exit the mall onto Mallory Lane. The other driver, later determined to be 35-year-old Feldman, cut him off and flashed a silver handgun at him as they were traveling north on Mallory Lane near Crossroads Boulevard.

The victim stayed on the phone with dispatch, providing information about the vehicle and updated information about its location. Officers spotted the vehicle in a strip mall parking lot at 1945 Mallory Lane. The other driver identified the suspect and vehicle, police said.

Feldman was charged with felony aggravated assault booked into the Williamson County Jail. He was later released on a $1,500 bond.

But we should not worry about guns in bars because no respecting gun owner would act irresponsibly would they?

By: gruntz on 6/2/10 at 10:03

Paranoia 57,381, incidents in bars zero.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/2/10 at 10:09

is this the same Dr. Feldman?

By: Kosh III on 6/2/10 at 10:28

O yes, gun owners are sooooooooooooo law abiding.

By: producer2 on 6/2/10 at 10:38

paranoia is the fear of something happening, this is reality. But then I have never read about any shootings in bars have you? Oh that's right those were not law abiding citizens. So by your stats as long as everyone behaves then there will never be an incident because the minute there is those folks immediately cross the line from law abiding to criminals. I wish I could keep stats like that....

Is this idiot an HCP holder? It really doesn't matter as what he did was wrong and he got and will get what he deserves if he is or not. I would just like to know. The article didn't say.

Producer2, the new law pertains to HCP holders not just the regular gun owner.

Kosh, obviously some GUN OWNERS aren't law abiding. The HCP HOLDERS I know are. Please note, I wrote the ones I know. No, I don't know them all.

It's idiots like this Feldman character that give other people who are law-abiding a bad name.

There is no listing of a Richard Feldman, age 35 (34), as being a current HCP holder.

By: WriterTwo on 6/2/10 at 11:53

If he is a non-HCP holder, he deserves to have more charges against him for carrying a loaded weapon. But if it wasn't loaded, what was he going to do with the gun . . . throw it?

By: Cookie47 on 6/2/10 at 12:00

There is a Richard Feldman (62-63 YO) listed as an HCP holder according to the Commercial Appeal website. If this is the same man as written about in this article, in my opinion, he should be stripped of his HCP.

After reading about this guy's past, I don't understand why it hasn't been already. He should be in jail. Again, just my opinion.

The City Paper needs to correct their article. Two Drs. Richard Feldman practice in the Franklin / Cool Springs area at different locations. One claims family practice as his speciality and the other is an opthomoglist who was born 1975. The younger doctor would probably prefer to be disassociated from the article.

By: idgaf on 6/2/10 at 1:07

Odds are he was NOT a permit holder or this paper would have used it as a see I told you so oportunity.

By: speedygun on 6/2/10 at 2:06

The Dr in the article is 35 years old. There is no listing. Dr. Richard Feldman 62-63 is not the same.

By: rxs4u on 6/2/10 at 3:38

dr. feldman is NOT 35 yrs old. that was a typo. trust me. i know him.

By: rxs4u on 6/2/10 at 3:41

wsmv (?) channel 4 has video footage and pics as well.

By: Lorenzo on 6/2/10 at 3:46

speedygun: Try Vanderbilt Eye Institute, Franklin, TN, for the younger Dr. Feldman and the 63 YO Dr. Feldman is in family practice in Nashville and Franklin. Prolly father and son.

In yesterday's Tennessean, his age was given as 62. That would be consistent with the one listed in the Commercial Appeal's website. He lives in Belle Meade. Probably figures the laws don't apply to him.

By: Cookie47 on 6/3/10 at 6:49

HCP holder or not, I hope they throw the book at this guy. As an HCP holder myself and if he is one, he's giving me and the rest of the group a bad name. Put him in jail where he belongs.

O yes, gun owners are sooooooooooooo law abiding.

Kosh, does he have a legal carry permit? Also, how many others have the claim to fame that he has.

I know you don't like the legal carry thing, but I also recognize you as a highly intelligent man able to sort out the facts. The percentage of crimes with guns by those who have NO permit is far greater than the legal permit carry crimes.

And most legal gun owners are law abiding as opposed to people who carry without a permit.

not wishing to join the fray about guns in bars or drs. who point pistols at people (since this violated the Hippocratic oath about doing no harm does this mean he's also stripped of his medical license?) I will say that based on personal experience with bars you are much more likely to be bashed over the head with either a beer bottle or a pool cue. So, do we outlaw beer in bottles or pool tables in bars?

By: Alphadog7 on 6/3/10 at 8:32

This guy is clearly a career criminal. Read his past. Do you really think stopping HCPs would stop him from carrying one?

By: Mastrick on 6/3/10 at 10:02

If I'm not mistaken this hothead drives a black pickup truck, he cut me off on the Hillsboro onramp to 440E yesterday morning and flipped me off and bounced up and down in his seat while cursing. Had me shaking my head, he appeared to be around 60 and I think he had a bad hairpiece. Dr. Feldman is well-known in the Nashville community and deserves more police attention.

Make things idiot-proof and the world will build a better idiot.

By: Miransky on 6/3/10 at 10:47

If this Dr Feldman is 35 years old, he clearly can't be the Dr Feldman in the Nashville Scene article because that article cites 1993 incidents, at which time the 35 year old Feldman could not have been practicing medicine unless he did so at age 18.

By: WickedTribe on 6/3/10 at 7:49

All these posts and nobody bothered to look it up? The age is a typo and contradicts the reporting of every other news agency.

Dr. Feldman is 62. The 'victim' is 35.
