Pet Resorts of America, a newly founded pet boarding company, will start construction next week on its first facility, located at 7200 Charlotte Pike close to the Wal-Mart SuperCenter.

Tom Chappell, who also owns Mid-Tenn Contractors Inc., hopes the first phase of construction, which will house approximately 110 dogs and 36 cats, will be completed by June 1.

The 15,000-square-foot building will cost about $750,000. Chappell said he expected to spend an additional $100,000 for equipment.

The kennels at the new facility will be 4 feet wide and 16 feet long, extending from an indoor to an outdoor area. A separate air system will be installed for kennels housing dogs and those housing cats.

Earl Varden, who has worked with Chappell for many years, has already undergone training to become the new facility
