Notice of appeal filed in Campfield libel lawsuit

LAFOLLETTE — A former Democratic candidate for the state House has filed notice that he will appeal the dismissal of his libel lawsuit against state Sen. Stacey Campfield.

Campfield, a Knoxville Republican, blogged before the 2008 election that he had heard candidate Roger Byrge had multiple drug arrests, and that the mug shots were "gold." It was later determined the arrest record belonged to Byrge's son.

Circuit Judge John McAfee, a Republican, last month found that Campfield had gotten it wrong on his blog, but he agreed with defense attorneys that the lawmaker did not know the information provided by House Republican leadership was false when he posted it.

The elder Byrge lost his House bid by fewer than 400 votes and later filed the $750,000 lawsuit in Campbell County.

Sure, he didn't. right What a crock. Not checking to see if it were true is as bad, if not worse than just lying about it. Not checking means he is willing to believe anything he hears, or he's willing to spread stories without confirming them. Either way, it doesn't say much for a legislator. Of course, he isn't much of a legislator either.

Campfield is one of the few politicians in Nashville with a backbone and I like the fact that he says to hell with political correctness but with all that aside the people here in East Tennessee know who and what Roger Byrge is therefore Campfield won . even with a trial Byrge will lose again.....GUARDIAN-GOD, COUNTRY, FAMILY and FRIENDS. The American Way.

Campfield has a backbone? Really?

The reality is he's a closeted nut case. He definitely doesn't think before he speaks. Who in their right mind believes a man had sex with a monkey and that's where AIDS started? All he has to do is check facts BEFORE opening his mouth.

What he did concerning his opponent was deliberate and calculated, plain and simple.

I would be very ashamed to admit in public that I voted for such a narrow minded person who doesn't care whether he uses the correct facts or not. He is the poster child for what's wrong in politics.

Campfield is a disgrace to Tennessee and all who live in the state that have worked hard to shed the past and the ignorant stereotypes associated with the great state that I love, is my home, and my birthplace. People who vote for Campfield are the same religious nuts that think two of every animal was on an ark, the world was created in seven literal days, and wonder where the sun goes at night. True conservatives are abandoning the Republican Party because its been hijacked and taken over by a bunch of extremist nut jobs that aren't anywhere near in touch with the general public. They have lost two presidential elections in a row and are going to loose another if they don't stop these people and get back to sanity because the votes aren't there nationally anymore especially if they stay tied to the extremist and the ignorant in their party. I don't care how much they hate Hillary, they still don't have anyone that can defeat her and they threw everything they had at Obama, called him everything but a child of god and he still won and would win again because they don't realize that the country has changed and they just can't accept it. It's especially true in the south where the republicans live in a bubble that isn't in touch with the rest of the nation. You republicans had better wake up and stop messing with idiots like Campfield, DeJarlis, and Priebus, otherwise you deserve what you get.

The saddest part is that the so-called judge made his decision based solely on politics.

If Campfield can get away with this, anyone can say anything about you and get away with it.
