Metro police officers arrested a former Vanderbilt football player early Friday morning outside of Rippy’s Bar & Grill after he refused to leave the area.

Blake Gowder, 20, was allegedly carrying both a fake and real ID when he was told to leave Rippy’s. He then leaned up against an employee's pickup truck and, according to a police affidavit, verbally assaulted plainclothes officers when they told him to leave the premises.

A police affidavit stated that Gowder resisted and attempted to hit an officer when the officer tried to place him under arrest.

Officers took Gowder to the ground, placed him in custody, and charged him with underage alcohol consumption, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $13,000 bond.

According to Vanderbilt’s website, Gowder was redshirted during the 2010 season and he wasn’t on the 2011 roster.

It appears that Vanderbilt saw him as a possible punk before the police department confirmed it.

20 years old and so stupid. You wonder why these punks just can't keep their nose's clean, graduate from a prestigious college, then enter the market place with a decent job.
Life can really be that simple.

Why drag Vanderbilts name through that mess. He no longer associated with that institution. They apparently discovered he lacked character and discharged him from the team. Why mention them. Shock value?
