A pedestrian was fatally injured Saturday night after she darted onto Nolensville Pike and was struck by a Nashville Fire Department SUV.
According to Metro Police, Tamyra Jones, 46, of Yelton Court in south Nashville was killed after she came into the path of the vehicle just north of the Nolensville Pike-Elysian Fields Road intersection at 10:05 p.m.
She was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe being driven by paramedic and Acting District Chief Gary Heflin, 43, of Nashville. Heflin was not involved with an emergency call at the time of the accident.
Jones was rushed to Southern Hills Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Heflin, who was traveling north on Nolensville Pike on his way to Station 21 Fire Hall on Joyner Avenue, told investigating officers that he never saw Jones prior to hitting her.
A witness, who was also traveling northbound on Nolensville Pike close to the Tahoe, said he saw a blur run into the roadway from the east side near the Family Dollar Store. The witness said that Heflin did not have time to react to avoid the collision.
An investigation is continuing.
