Pigeons bomb downtown power station, cause electrical outtage

The results of another air raid by Nashville pigeons left a good portion of downtown without power yesterday morning, accord-ing to Nashville Electric Service spokeswoman Teresa Corlew.

The blackout - the second within the past few months due to pigeon excrement - began at 5:15 a.m. and continued for an hour and a half to two hours, Corlew said.

Pigeon droppings that had built up on NES equipment at the central substation downtown affected breakers, transformers, bushings and switches, Corlew said. Rather than washing away the droppings, yesterday morning
