Metro police have charged 53-year-old Charles Connor with attempted homicide and aggravated assault for allegedly shooting two people after holding them hostage inside his Madison apartment.

According to police, an argument between Connor, of Cheyenne Boulevard, and two other people broke out at Connor’s apartment around 12:30 a.m. Monday, prompting a neighbor to call police after hearing gunshots.

When the first responding officers arrived, they found Connor allegedly holding two people — Kevin Dale Lowe, 49, and Fancy O’Neal Luckey, 36, — hostage. Those officers backed off and SWAT team officers responded, entering the home about an hour later after hearing more gunshots.

Connor, according to Metro police, shot at one officer who then shot back, with both shots missing their marks. Police, however, claim Connor suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his foot during the incident.

Connor was treated and released into police custody. Luckey, who was shot in the chest, was in critical but stable condition Monday and Lowe was in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police said they found evidence of drug use inside the apartment.
