Detectives believe fresh scratches on the face of a suspect may lead to his arrest for a violent sexual assault late Monday.

A 23-year-old woman told police the suspect asked her for a cigarette lighter at about 11:45 p.m. Monday as she crossed the Woodland Street Bridge on foot into East Nashville. According to police, the man then attacked the woman with either a razor blade or box cutter near the Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center, cutting and slashing her upper body while she was on the ground.

The victim fought back, possibly significantly scratching the man’s face, particularly around his eyes.

Police described the suspect as a white man, perhaps in his 30s, with very short blonde hair and who possibly wore a gray shirt at the time of the attack. He’s approximately 5-foot-10-inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds.

Metro detectives ask anyone knowing of a man with fresh facial scrapes and scratches to call Sex Crimes Unit at 862-7540 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.

Citizens can also send an electronic tip to Crime Stoppers by texting the word “CASH” along with their message to 274637 (CRIMES) or online at www.nashvillecrimestoppers.com.
