Metro police detectives believe Thursday night’s fatal shooting of a 10-month-old boy at a motel on Elm Hill Pike was unintentional.
The shooting happened around 6:40 p.m. at 2511 Elm Hill Pike. According to police, 30-year-old Larry Bass was handling a semi-automatic pistol when it discharged, shooting Adam Bass in the chest.
Larry Bass’ wife and their two other sons, who are ages 3 and 2, were also present at time.
Two Hermitage Precinct detectives, who were nearby, responded to the scene and administered CPR, but were unsuccessful. Adam died at the scene.
According to Metro police, the family is from Texas and Larry Bass has been in town working at the Music City Center site.
The investigation continues.
Playing with or cleaning a loaded gun in a hotel with family nearby, what a freaking genius.
The idiot's wife should have then grabbed the gun and shot her stupid husband dead on the spot...no jury would convict her.
This is a good example of just because everyone has the right to own a gun, many shouldn't. They're just too stupid and in this case, a 10 month old is dead. Brilliant.
Terrible tragedy...my sympathies to the family.
I have grown up around guns and have owned one all my adult life.
One rule that is ever-present in my head: Never let the barrel point toward a person, not even for a moment, not even in passing, not even if you believe the gun is unloaded. Apparently this guy did not adhere to this rule.
