Metro police working Thursday night’s Country Music Association Music Festival concert at LP Field arrested a Georgia man for allegedly selling counterfeit tickets to unsuspecting fans.
Plainclothes officers arrested Eric North, 39, of Douglasville, Ga., on the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge after he allegedly showed them fake tickets, some with the same barcodes and same seat numbers.
North is charged with criminal simulation and two counts of misdemeanor theft. He was held in jail on $30,000 bond.
Police said North had 47 counterfeit tickets and $1,039 in cash on him when they arrested him. Duped fans alerted police to the fake tickets after LP Field staffers told them that the tickets they’d bought for between $40 and $80 were no good.
Officers returned $980 of the cash taken from North to nine victims identified as having bought from North or another man with him.
Police said ticket resellers and other street vendors are required to display city-issued identification cards.
