Metro Police have arrested a man they say is responsible for two burglaries less than a week at Belle Meade gun shop Game Fair Ltd.
Responding to a 4 a.m. alarm call at the Old Harding Pike sporting goods business, West Precinct Patrol Officer Brandon Smith said he saw Jarrett Mooneyhan, 20, drive out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed.
Officer Smith said he took evasive action to avoid being struck by the getaway Honda Accord. Mooneyhan crashed a short distance away on Sedberry Road and fled on foot. His identification was located inside the car.
At 9:30 a.m. Sunday, West Precinct Detective Mike Moss and Patrol Officers Paul Sorace and Peter Lynch took Mooneyhan into custody without incident at his Cross Creek Drive residence.
Police say Mooneyhan admitted to that he broke into Game Fair Ltd. early Sunday morning and also on June 30.
In the first break-in, Mooneyhan stole six handguns, police said. He told Detective Moss he had traded the weapons for drugs. He fled the second burglary empty-handed.
Mooneyhan was convicted of DUI last year. He is charged with two counts of burglary, aggravated assault against Officer Smith, and felony evading arrest. Mooneyhan is being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.
