Police ID pair who allegedly forcibly entered home, attacked resident

Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 12:46pm

Metro police have identified the two men shot by a homeowner after they allegedly forced their way into his home.

Edward Williams told police Corey T. Mitchell, 29, and Germaine A. Mitchell, 39 — not related to Corey Mitchell, according to police — entered Williams’ home at about 2 p.m. Monday. Williams said Corey Mitchell punched him as Germaine Mitchell struck him with a tire iron.

Williams told police he then armed himself with a handgun and shot both men. As a result, Germaine Mitchell died inside the home, located at 1703 26th Ave. N. near Buchanan Street. Another person drove Corey Mitchell to Nashville General Hospital at Meharry where he underwent surgery and is now listed in stable condition.

Police expect to charge Corey Mitchell with aggravated burglary when he is released from the hospital. Detectives continue to believe the men might have targeted Williams but haven’t yet said why.

Mr. Williams did the right thing. He did what he had to do. These two pieces of dog crap invaded his home. Germaine Mitchell died. Good!!!!!!! He deserved it and died too slow as far as I'm concerned. It's a damn shame Corey Mitchell didn't get the same.

Good shooting, Mr. Williams. GOOD SHOOTING!!!!

A quick check of Metro Nashville's criminal court website shows the dead savage has prior convictions for felony assault, attempted rape, and larceny. I have two words for the victim: Thank you! Sadly, the other savage will probably recover and go on to commit more violent crimes. Hopefully he takes another bullet and the next one is fatal. We already know we cannot trust our criminal justice system to keep this wild animal in a cage for any meaningful length of time.

Tenn. Big Dog---
Being a retired Metro Police Officer, I absolutely love it when the Good Guy defends Himself. Sir, I think that the Mayor and council should give you a good Citizen award.
Personally, I would love to buy you some new fresh bullets for your gun...

Corey Mitchell could very well face homicide charges also as a result of Germaine Mitchell's death. TN does have a felony homicide law.

Sounds like everyone is annointing Williams as the hero in all this and maybe he is . . . or maybe he isn't.
Was he the squeaky-clean citizen, a random innocent victim, or were there other reasons he was "targeted"?

It had to happen sooner or later - someone calling into question the homeowners integrity. He took a POS thug off the street. That's good enough for me. It's just a shame the other one got away with only being wounded.

Lousy shot, Williams. You missed one.

wait, where is the rights of the 2 illegals in the home? maybe they were hungry? maybe they were looking for work? maybe they wanted education or healthcare?

Two words: Home invasion and self-defense.

You people who think this man will be, or should be prosecuted, are nuts - no, that is offending the nuts like walnuts, pecans and almonds. You are not nuts. You are just plain too liberal for even your own good.

NOT for home invasions and people who are in the home who are forced to defend themselves.

Nitzche, you are hilarious! If they break into my home, they will have rights . . . the right to bend over and kiss their hiney's goodbye before I fire; the right to get on their knees and apologize for breaking my door or window when they broke in and the right to give me a logical explanation as to why I should not shoot them (that is, IF they understand my Englilsh only sentence asking them "why are you in my home")

It's a shame that some people don't respect other people's property and rights. No one has the right to break into anyone else's home.

Budlight,

I like your way of thinking. It's about time these thugs started getting what they deserve - a long dirt nap. Hopefully, mssadvocate doesn't see this. She would probably want to hug the thugs and have pity on them.

Passage Psalm 24 :

Psalm 24

1The earth is the LORD's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

2For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

3Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?

4He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

5He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

6This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

7Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

8Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.

9Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

10Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.
