Police ID woman killed on I-40 in west Nashville

Police identified the woman killed in a Sunday night wreck on Interstate 40 as Elizabeth Barkalow, 52, of, Burns, Tenn.

The two-vehicle collision happened in the westbound lanes of I-40 near Charlotte Pike around 8 p.m. Sunday when Barkalow’s Honda CRV veered into another lane and hit a van driven by James Venable, 66, of Jackson, Tenn. Barkalow’s Honda then crossed the roadway, hitting a retaining wall.

Barkalow died at the scene, and Venable was taken to Southern Hills Medical Center with non-lifethreatening injuries. Police said both people were wearing their seat belts and there was no signs of alcohol or drugs at the scene.

Don't understand how a Honda CRV with airbags and she's wearing her seat belt....she dies at the scene? Must of been going 90mph.
