Adrian J. Gilliam Jr., 33, of LaVergne, has been arrested on a federal criminal complaint charging him with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, The City Paper has learned.
Gilliam allegedly sold the gun to Sahel 'Jenny' Kazemi who later used it to kill ex-Titans quarterback Steve McNair.
Police have indicated that the transaction was not illegal, but the possession offense is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The complaint, which was filed in U.S. District Court, alleges that he sold the gun to Sahel 'Jenny' Kazemi.
A firearms trace conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms reveals that the firearm was purchased Jan. 3, 2002, from Household Pawn in Nashville. Further investigation reveals that the 9-mm handgun was sold for approximately $100 1 1/2 years ago.
Authorities say Gilliam then sold the gun to Kazemi for approximately $100 on July 2 outside of Dave & Busters at Opry Mills.
A criminal history check of Gilliam reveals that he had prior felony convictions from the state of Florida. Specifically, he was convicted in 1993 of three counts of attempted armed robbery and second-degree murder in Dade County, Fla where he received sentences of 15 and 17 years, respectively.
A news conference to discuss is scheduled at 1 p.m. in U.S. Attorney Ed Yarbrough's office in Nashville.
