Staff reports

Metro detectives are searching for both a murder suspect and his motive following the Thursday night shooting death of James Eddie Clark.

Around 9 p.m. Thursday, police said the suspect approached the driver’s side door of Clark’s Mercury Mountaineer at the intersection of Lellyett Street and Charlotte Pike then fired several shots into the vehicle. Clark, 60, of Richmond Hill Drive, was critically wounded and later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The shooter then reached into Clark’s SUV and took something from it before driving off in a gold Pontiac Aztec. Police described the suspect as a 6-foot-2-inch black man with short hair, who wore a white tank top and blue jean shorts at the time of the shooting.

Police noted that Clark had misdemeanor gambling convictions from last November as well as in 2001.

Detectives urge anyone with information on this case, particularly regarding the gold Pontiac Aztec, to contact the Emergency Communications Center at 862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
