Police seek burglary suspect after scuffle with armed homeowner

Police hope finding what may be a silver two-door Honda Accord with its back window shattered from gunfire leads them to identifying a burglary suspect.

Late Sunday morning an Old Hickory homeowner, who was in the basement of his home with his young son, heard a crash coming from upstairs and went to investigate. According to police, the 37-year-old homeowner, of Stone Hall Boulevard, found a burglar coming from a bedroom. The two began to struggle, with the suspect reaching for his back waistband as if he had a gun.

Once the homeowner pushed the suspect toward the front door and the man ran to his car, the homeowner ran to get a pistol from his bedroom. Police said he told them that when he saw the suspect apparently reaching for something in his car the homeowner fired several shots at the suspect’s car, hitting the back window and perhaps the side glass as well.

Police described the burglar as a white male with a shaved head. He is in his early 30s, is approximately 5-feet-9 inches tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He wore a white T-shirt and blue jean shorts during the Sunday morning burglary.

Police ask anyone seeing a two-door silver Honda Accord-type car with significant damage to the back and possibly side windows to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME or Hermitage Precinct Investigations at 862-6993.

Citizens can also send an electronic tip to Crime Stoppers by texting the word “CASH” along with their message to 274637 (CRIMES) or online at www.nashvillecrimestoppers.com.  Persons who contact Crime Stoppers by phone or text message can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.

Kudos to the homeowner. Too bad he missed, but the suspect got a scare he won't soon forget.

I agree slim 4520! Would be great if every time someone thinks they have a right to enter someone's home illegally, they could get popped! Might make some of them think twice before doing the same. Open season on burglars!
