The Metro Nashville Police Department believe the killing of Jorge Insignares, 62, who was found dead in the passenger seat of his car Tuesday, may be a stranger-on-stranger crime of opportunity.

Police believe that robbery was the motive and are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect.

According to police, neighbors first saw Insignares’ car in the 4800 block of Jonquil Drive in South Nashville on Monday. A person saw Insignares’ body in the front seat of his white Lincoln Town Car early Tuesday morning and called authorities.

Insignares, of Murfreesboro, dropped his wife off at the H&R Block office at 3977 Nolensville Pike in the Elysian Fields Shopping Center on Monday. His wife told detectives that he was supposed to join her inside after he parked, but he never showed up. She arranged for a ride home and reported Insignares missing to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday morning.

Metro detectives think a gunman confronted Insignares in the parking lot, forced his way into the car and ultimately drove to Jonquil Drive location on Monday.

According to police, a citizen driving by that location Monday afternoon at approximately 1:20 p.m. told detectives that he saw black man wearing a white T-shirt at the driver’s side door of the car. That person fled the area on foot.

Robbery could be a possible motive, according to police.

MNPD is asking that anyone with information who may have spotted Insignares’ car on Monday afternoon or who saw a suspicious man around the Elysian Fields Shopping Center midday on Monday to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME or South Precinct investigations office at 615-862-7763.
